Makeup Rash © Kathryn Kmet

This image had become the result of my corset photographs. It relates in a way that I am observing the way our body reacts to what we purposely do to it. This image for instance is of my eye after excessive use of old makeup. It has happened when I was a child and it sprouted up not too long ago. I am interested in how our bodies tell us to stop doing something but we don't usually listen. My other images from this were of my scared feet from my horrible shoes, and the bloody marks on my brow after a good plucking.

I start with myself to understand our culture. I am interested more on the extremes women and men alike do day to day.

Restraint Marks © Kathryn Kmet

I have been into corsets since I was a teenager, and I grew to love the feeling of a bit of restraint at my waist. Now older, I feel as though it is a bit silly dramatically straining your body for only fashion reasons. The effects on our bodies are tremendous if used daily, and I wanted to photograph the effects it had on my body for only a few minutes. It's kind of a love hate relationship to me because I love the look and feeling, but I hate what it does to me physically, and I hate knowing how it can damage a body.

Dream Series © Kathryn Kmet

These are two separate images I took for my Narrative class a few months ago. The assignment was to create a tableaux style photograph about a faire tale or dream. I choose to do one from a dream and one from a story. The one on the bottom is my interpretation from The Girl With No Hands, a Grimm's Faire Tale. And the top was from a horrific dream where I was the hunter of dozens of zombies, I slit each throat of the deranged zombie.

Loss of Dependency ©Kathryn Kmet

This illustrates my change in the past 6 years of a teenager and my loss of dependency of piercing and a raw visual appearance. I recently realized body modifications for myself were a safe blanket for my search to find myself. I feel like the journey is still on going but it's not far from finishing.
